Lt. Gen. Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander of the Libyan Armed Forces, laid the foundation stone for the new Shuwerif International Airport, set to span 2,000 hectares and include a 3.6 km runway, three aircraft entrances, two aprons, a passenger terminal, cargo facilities, and full commercial services.
Early phases have already completed key infrastructure works and begun final reinforced-concrete layering, with the entire project designed according to international aviation standards, ensuring safety through certified lighting, navigation systems, and backup power.
